Learning anything new can be a scary experience, try and relax and enjoy yourself. Strictly Salsa is known for “putting the fun in salsa” and you will find our classes are informative, but more importantly, you will be relaxed and have lots of fun! We have a team of highly trained instructors who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
Keep your dancing simple and basic initially to build up your confidence, then start playing and experimenting with new moves and styling as you progress!
The most important advice for all dancers, is to smile and have fun when you dance!
The best way to improve is to practice practice practice! Go to as many classes as you can, go social dancing as much as possible, and even look into some private lessons to give you an extra push if you are taking your dancing seriously.
Strictly Salsa can take you right from your first steps through to a high level ready to compete and perform!
Do I need a Partner?
No partners necessary! We make sure we have an even balance in all our courses to ensure you won’t be alone. You can come with your friends, your partner or on your own! We aim to have even numbers in every class, more often than not turning people away to ensure the numbers are balanced.
What Should I wear?
Classes:
Comfortable clothes that don’t restrict movement. Most people come straight from work and are in their work clothes, others wear jeans / casual clothes. You will get warm when you are dancing, so wear coolish clothes so you don’t overheat!
Clubs:
Again, comfort is key! Wear clothes that will allow full range of movement, and that you don’t have to fix and adjust every 30 seconds! Clubs are usually smart casual, and some have dress regulations.
What Shoes are best?
Guys: No joggers or thongs! Try and wear smooth soles, preferably leather. Avoid rubber soles that will grip the floor. Best to wear enclosed shoes to protect your feet on the dance floor!
Girls: No thongs, sandles or joggers. Its really important ladies to have a smooth sole to help with your turns. Don’t wear anything that will grip the floor.

Comfort is important ladies, if they are not comfortable to walk around in, they are not going to be comfy dancing!
It’s essential to have some heel support when dancing, with a strap securing your shoe around your ankle. This will prevent twists and sprains from falling off your shoe.
A small heel is recommended to help with your balance, try and avoid completely flat shoes.
Professional dance shoes make a huge difference if you are dancing regularly. Have a look at www.strictlydancing.com.au for more information or ask your instructor in your next classs.
