Strictly Salsa is opening registrations for a brand new Cuban course.
What is Cuban Salsa?
Cuban Salsa is a particular type of round dancing of Salsa. It was developed in Havana, Cuba in the late 1950s and early 1960s by the famous group Guaracheros de Regla and one of its main choreographers and creators was Jorge Alfaro from San Miguel del Padron, a soloist of a comparsa.
The names of the salsa moves are mostly in Spanish, some in English (or Spanglish; e.g., "Sombrero"). Some names are known in slightly different versions, easily recognisable by Spanish-speaking dancers, but may be confusing to the rest.
While Cuban Salsa is especially popular in Cuba and it can also be found in many other countries. Rueda has active groups in at least Hungary, Israel, Norway, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Hong Kong, Spain, Australia, Switzerland and the UK. At least in Germany and Israel, some of the calls are in German and Hebrew respectively.
Why Learn Cuban Salsa?
Simply because it is loads of fun!!
It is a very social dance and you will get to meet lots of new friends. Most of the moves learned in level 1 can be used in Rueda and in individual partner dances. Making it a really fun way to learn this spectacular dance.
Great for dancing in clubs or at home with friends and family.
What other students think of the Cuban courses at Strictly Salsa....
Gary's salsa classes are an absolute hoot! He's an amazing dancer and has a unique style that teaches and entertains at the same time. Sometimes he brings along special visitors who are also teachers, or from advanced classes - and they all bring something new. It's amazing how good you can become in just 8 weeks - until you get out to a club and realise how much more you have to learn! We've signed up for Level 2....Kate & Dave
It's the highlight of my week! I've never laughed so hard. The class size is perfect - large enough to allow variety but not so large that I just feel like a number. The instructors are great - there's always an opportunity to ask for advice. My fellow learners are super friendly and keen to improve their skills. I'm already looking forward to the next level... Amanda
Strictly Salsa has been a fun experience for me. I was a bit hesitant to join any dance classes, however after I started with Strictly Salsa, I was glad that I did it with Strictly Salsa.
Gary and Ruth have been absolutely patient with the group and have made sure that we all are moving at the same pace & level. They have made efforts to ensure that we are confident dancers even though its only the first level of Cuban Salsa.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the time with Strictly Salsa and I am now looking forward to more.
Great work guys and all the best !!....Mel
What experience do I need to do Cuban Salsa?
None! for a level 1 course and we will teach you everything you need to know from scatch.
I have done an LA style course with Striclty Salsa - will this help?
Yes! The training you have done with Striclty Salsa in LA style with definitly benefit you in Cuban. However the styles are different and you will need to cover the basics of Cuban salsa like any other student. You will however pick it up much quicker.
